At Shenton College we welcome all prospective students from within our catchment area. Through our GATE program, a unique and successful program which supports academically gifted students, we also accept successful students from outside the catchment. Students in our catchment who didn’t gain a place in the GATE program, but who have been identified as gifted and talented, may apply to our HPL program, through a portfolio entry and local selection.
Year 7 Orientation and Enrolment Details
During the final year of primary school, we distribute relevant paperwork, and arrange for Year 6 students from various interested primary schools in the catchment to visit the College.
Weeks 4 – 7: Each year in May and June, we visit a range of primary schools in our catchment. During the visits, Shenton College Middle School staff talk to primary school staff and students, and provide information and enrolment forms.
Week 1: This is the deadline for return of Year 7 Enrolment Forms to the Middle School Office.
Week 9: Applications to Shenton College are assessed.
During the final school term, the assessment of the portfolios for HPL classes are finalised.
Our College is built on ethical foundations and we always strive to be timely, open and transparent in our communications with prospective parents and students. The following information is designed to assist you with process of enrolment at Shenton College.
ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE DOWNLOADED AND SUBMITTED IN HARD COPY, EITHER BY POST OR IN PERSON. EMAILED ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. ALL REQUESTED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION MUST BE A PHOTOCOPY FOR THE COLLEGE TO RETAIN.
Please contact the College for clarification about the intake area, visa restrictions and any special needs that your child may have. Please refer to the application form for information about evidence that must accompany enrolment applications.
Upon confirmation of enrolment into Year 7, parents (of students other than GATE) will be offered the opportunity to submit an application for the High Performance Learning Program. This program is only open to enrolled students (students from outside the local-intake area are not eligible to apply), who are required to submit a portfolio of evidence demonstrating sustained high performance in Mathematics, English, Science and Humanities. Confirmation of selection into this program will take place in Term Four.
OTHER YEAR GROUPS
Enrolment into other years can take place any time throughout the year. It is important to contact the College for information about course selection and subject availability before completing an application form.
If the College has capacity to accept enrolments from outside our intake area, the following process is followed:
First priority is given to a child who has a sibling enrolled at the College in the current year (other than in the GATE program) and who lives nearest the College.
Second priority is given to a child who does not have a sibling enrolled at the College in the current year, or who has a sibling enrolled in the GATE program, and who lives nearest the College.
Please contact the College for further clarification about the process before completing any enrolment applications.
STUDENTS ON VISAS
If you have entered Australia on a visa, the College must view documents which clearly state a visa sub class for students, before any enrolment can be confirmed. Only those students with eligible visa numbers can be accepted. Please contact the College for further information about this.
