Last month a team of 8 students went to Thailand to represent Shenton, Australia.
The team was: Tarrant Reimers, Tom Laslett and Sage Allen – Year 9 and Thomas Brauhart, Oscar Murat, Alexandra Truong, Rose Lin and Kailin Guo – Year 10.
While challenged by the level of maths, we are proud of their efforts – these students come from one school while other students who attended, work through national or regional systems to be selected to represent their country. However, we had Rose and Alex achieve a Merit Award – Rose was one place off a bronze medal and Thomas Brauhart made the Top 20 (out of 300) in the Puzzle Competition based on Tangrams which was a great result. Thomas was also selected as the TIMC star for his engagement and positivity throughout the competition, interviewed on Thai national television, spoke on behalf of all students at the Closing Ceremony and kept the whole group smiling even though we were exhausted.
