This afternoon saw the Senior School Girls soccer team go down 2-1 to Woodvale B in the last 16 of the knockout rounds. It was a disappointing defeat but the performance was one the girls can be really proud of.
After taking an early lead through Jess Butterworth the girls had a few chances to extend this but just could not find the net.
The game changed midway through the first half when Woodvale brought on a couple of U18 state players who would usually play in their A team but, due to injury, had not played so far this season making them eligible for the B team. Unfortunately for us these girls were superb players and changed the game completely allowing Woodvale to dominate possession.
Our girls defended resolutely but it was two errors that lead to the Woodvale goals either side of half time. At 2-1 down the girls pushed for an equaliser but had no luck and went down fighting. The turnaround in effort and skill from our previous round was fantastic and they put everything into this game, but just didn’t have the luck needed on this occasion.
As this was a season ending loss it will be the last time the Year 12’s represent Shenton College. Some of these girls were involved in the Junior Girls Soccer team that won the State School Cup in 2012 ( beating Woodvale A and Safety Bay A specialist soccer schools along the way) when they were in Year 9. They have always represented the school impeccably and I have been proud to coach them throughout their time at Shenton College. I think it is important we recognise their achievements before they graduate so please congratulate the following Year 12 girls for their services to Shenton College soccer over the last five years:
- Isabel Rondoni
- Niamh Swingler
- Elizabeth Skotsch
- Katie Saunders
- Mikayla Denney
- Laura O’ Sullivan
- Neeka Khaksar
