Junior Boys AFL Eagles Cup

This past Monday the junior boys AFL team wrapped up a successful Eagles Cup campaign. The boys found some form in the second half of the season, winning 2 out of their last three games.

In round 4 we were beaten by a talented JTC team by only 9 points. The boys then played their best game of the season, linking up beautifully in the midfield to defeat Churchlands by 22 points. Against Perth Modern, Shenton finished with a decent 8 point win.

Shenton finished 2nd on the ladder behind JTC. It was an excellent result and the boys should be proud of the way they carried themselves through all 6 rounds.

Whilst the team play was fantastic, there are a few individual acts of brilliance which must be mentioned. Josh Gentle’s banana from the boundary was exquisite, icing the game against Perth Modern. And Riley Torrijos kicked the greatest point ever seen in a junior AFL game. In a play highly reminiscent of Boomer Harvey’s a few years back, Riley gathered the ball in the back line, weaved past numerous opposition, bounced the ball at least 5 times and kicked from 40 metres out, only to hit the post!
