College Rules
These rules are based on the College Code of Behaviour. They are for the purpose of defining boundaries of student behaviour and reflect the endorsed position of the College community.
Courtesy and Respect
- Courteous and respectful behaviour towards others is required to develop and maintain harmonious relationships.
- Any for of bullying, harassment, verbal of physical abuse shows a lack of respect for others and is against the ethos of Shenton College and will not be tolerated.
- Students must follow the instructions of teachers.
Designated student access areas
- Students are only permitted in designated areas of the College. Some areas are out of bounds to students. (See map of school showing 'Out of Bounds' areas).
- Students are only allowed in classrooms when a staff member is present or staff permission is obtained.
Class Attendance
- Students are expected to arrive at all classes punctually and with all necessary materials.
- Students out of class during lesson time must be able to confirm teacher/College permission e.g. appropriate permission note.
- Obtain written approval from the senior/middle school administraion if needing to leave school during the day and sign out at Administration office.
- Provide an explanatory note to the mentor teacher signed by the parent/guardian for any absence.
Leaving the school grounds or arriving late
- Students are to remain on the College grounds during school hours unless given written permission to leave by the Administration office staff.
- Students given written permission to leave the College during the day must sign out at the Middle/Senior School Administration office.
- Students arriving at the College after school commences are required to sign in at the Administration office.
Prohibited substances
- Prohibited substances are not permitted on College grounds or at College functions or activities. This includes alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs and other substances whichi may be used for illicit purposes.
Classroom & Grounds
- Students must keep College environment clean, neat and tidy and place all litter in bins provided
- Food or drink are not to betaken into classrooms without teacher permission.
- Chewing gum is not permitted within the College.
- Escessive noise or distracting behaviour that interferes with teaching and/or learning is not permitted. Tadios, walkmans, cassette platers, mobile phones and the like are not to be taken into classes without teacher permission. Students are advised to leave all such items at home.
Dress Code
- Students must adhere to College dress code at all times.
Safety
- Behaviour that is potentially dangerous, or neglectful of the welfare of other, is not permitted. e.g. throwing objects, unruly behaviour, pushing, kicking, firing pellets, spitting, fighting.
- Students are not permitted to bring to College anything that is potentially hazardous. e.g. matches, lighters, knives, weapons.
- Students are not permitted to ride bicycles, skateboards or scooters within the College grounds.
- Students coming to and going from College must use designated road crossings and obey the directions of crosswalk attendants.
Respect for property
- Respect must be shown for other people's property. Vandalism, graffiti-writing and stealing and illegal and unacceptable.
Transportation
- Bicycles must be parked in the bike racks, padlocked and must remain there during school hours. Entry and exit is via designated bicycle paths only.
- Scooters, skateboards and the like must be housed in the designated areas.
- Student vehicles must be parked off campus in Stubbs Terrace car bays. They are to be locked and must remain in the designated area during school hours. Students' vehicles must be registered with the Year 12 Coordinator.
