Participation Awards


  1. The Participation Award is a system where students nominate to the Year Coordinator acts of participation and citizenship that they have completed over the course of the year. Each activity has points allocated and students will receive, bronze, silver and gold awards depending on the number of points accumulated. The points scheme is 120pts for gold, 80 for silver and 50 for bronze.

  2. The presentation of Merit Certificates will be at year assemblies.

  3. Students will have to fill out a nomination form to claim points.

  4. The year coordinators tally the points and check at random the veracity of claims. The mentor teacher is responsible for distributing the nomination forms and collecting them from students and forwarding them on to the Year Coordinator.

  5. The major outcomes of this scheme are
    1. To encourage teachers to reward students for exemplary and improving behaviour - promoting a positive learning environment. [EXCELLENCE]
    2. To have a formal participation reward based on firm criteria and a system that verifies community activities of students. [COMMUNITY]
    3. Students to have a tangible record of in-school and out-of-school achievements.
    4. Promote core shared values of shared and civic responsibility, environmental responsibility, respect and concern for others and their rights. [SELF]
    5. Promote opportunities for leadership for all students

  6. Student outcomes from:
    1. pride folder, portfolio,
    2. local service club recognition,
    3. possible mentoring situation with service club

  7. Mentor teacher roles:
    1. supply nomination forms
    2. collect nomination forms and relay them on to Year Coordinators
    3. information role: remind and motivate students
    4. others as required.

  8. Suggested Points:

    State representative in sport, debating etc 30pts
    School representative in sport, debating, quiz, etc 20pts
    Regular attendance at St John, Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Girls Brigade etc 15 pts
    Regular attendance at Youth club 15pts
    40 hour famine 10pts
    Charity Door knock 10 pts
    School play, performance 10pts
    Class play (out of hours) 10pts
    Class play (in school) 5pts
    Sports club involvement eg soccer, hockey etc 5 pts
    Sports club involvement, bonus captain etc 2pts

    Letter of commendation to parent for improved behaviour/work etc 5pts
