Fitness for Life Program for Year 11 & 12 Students
Student Handout Term 3The Health and Physical Education staff at Shenton College organises the Fitness for Life Program. It is designed to enable students to be active participants in recreational activities to enhance health and wellbeing.
Activities may include:
- Aerobics
- Power walking
- Gym based activities eg. pump, tae bo combat
- Yoga for stress relief
- Jogging
- Aerobic dancing
- Circuits
- Weights etc.
- Self defence
- Fencing
Participation in team sports such as netball, football, soccer, basketball, volleyball are an integral part of this program.
The involvement of parents and community members with expertise to offer will be encouraged.
Year 11 and 12 students are expected to regularly participate in chosen activities, organised at convenient times. Links with UWA Sports options are incorporated into this program.
The aim is to encourage students to take responsibility for their fitness and thereby gain an improvement in self-esteem, body image and overall ability to cope with the increasing pressures of being a teenager and young adult. In this technological age the importance of being physically active must not be overlooked.
Staff are also encouraged to participate in the program.
