Academic Programs

Shenton GATE Program

At Shenton College we have a large catchment area, an inclusive ethos, and a curriculum that responds to the full range of learning types and abilities. For students outside our catchment, entry can only be obtained through successfully securing a place in our highly competitive Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program.

Entry into GATE is through an annual testing program managed by the Department of Education.

Shenton HPL Program

For entry into our High Performance Learning (HPL) program, students must be eligible for local enrolment (e.g. their usual place of residence is within our catchment and they hold an appropriate visa) and are selected for HPL through a local entry process which includes:

  • sitting a common selection test at the College (or if interstate or overseas, by arrangement). The test is conducted at Shenton College and lasts approximately 90 minutes. The HPL test will be administered at the end of Term 3. Test registration will not be available until the end of Term 2 or early in Term 3 and will be communicated here.
  • provision of the latest school report.
  • provision of the latest NAPLAN results.
  • where available (not required) external testing data such as Gifted and Talented testing results.

Registrations close around Week 7 of Term 3. Once we close registration, email confirmation will be sent to families informing them of the process leading to the testing date.
